THE ROLEX WE CAN AFFORD
August 25, 2010 – 3:51 amIn the year 2003, Rolex SA recorded a 3 billion dollar profit. More than six years later most of the world’s population still can’t afford to dream of owning a Rolex watch and yet I shudder to imagine just what profits they might have recorded last year alone. It’s a sad tale of our world but it’s also the true one, not everything is made for everybody, some of us are just considered, by virtue of our fiscal value, to not belong to ‘The Club’.
The name of Rolex is known the world over and not just by those who can afford to purchase them but by virtually everybody. You could find somebody who doesn’t speak a word of English or any other international language but if you show them the crown, they will say the name Rolex but despite all this, Roles SA has never ever been struck by the brilliant idea to explore the ‘other’ market. Most Rolexes are made as luxurious time-pieces and are by default to have a price tag that will never be within the means of most people.
That’s why when the big watch-makers complain of how the replica watch markets are cutting into their profits, most people don’t mind. If for the first time in your life you found you could afford something with the name of Rolex, even if it was just a Rolex replica Daytona, would you be so quick to understand the problem of the thing that has been trying to prevent this? The time has come for the rest of the world to bear the crown. Whether it’s on a replica Rolex Daytona or some other replica Rolex, I believe that there will be more than enough people willing to bear the crown.
